I should be on holidays,
I should be with my family,
I should be with my friends,
But my job,
My duty,
My task,
My assignment,
Have a grip on me.
I am an anchor to my nation,
I serve not one,
Not two,
I protect not one,
Not two,
I fight for not one,
Not two.
I can only meet my colleagues here for a pat,
For a warm hug in tears,
For a shake of solace,
For a cheer of motivation,
Can you see i have a family here too?
“Brace yourself young lad”
I keep telling myself,
But my facials can tell it all that i am sad,
That i am in pain,
That i grieve,
But, if not me,
Who will?
I penned this tribute for my cousin, a soldier, a warrior, a trooper who i have loved to always hangout with on holidays, but his job, says a no no to him. This also is to every soldier out there who will not be spending this Christmas with family and friends. Thank you all for reading.
This is a very touching poem and a great tribute to all of our soldiers. ❤❤

A beautiful tribute to your cousin and all who serve our country and keep us all safe, I have written a prose several years ago to thank all the armed forces who never have a day off and protect our freedom. I hope your cousin gets to read it, and I hope you don’t mind that I posted it in this comment. Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New Year to you and yours.
FREEDOM
By: Patricia Salamone
They go by air and by sea to a foreign land
The heat and the dust burns their skin
They go not to fight but to lend a hand
In their hearts they carry freedom on their shoulders
They carry weapons in their eyes you can see honor
They leave behind their wives, husbands, children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters,
Aunts, uncles, cousins, girlfriends, boyfriends, the safety of their home, their jobs, home
cooked meals, holidays with their family and friends, seeing the birth of their children.
They follow in the foot steps of their ancestors before them, many will not return, but
they will persevere and in the end their honor and bravery, and the freedom they carry in
their hearts will rise up. The ones that have gone before them and have not returned are
there beside them shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart reminding them that freedom is not
free. So this holiday season when you are celebrating with family and friends doing the
things you are free to do, in your heart honor the men and women who have
made that possible for you.
